BMW Service and Repair Pine Knoll NCManufacturers are recommending extended services for their newer car sales to make the vehicle sound maintenance-free. While technology has changed and newer vehicles include new features, the service to your vehicle on some items remains the same. Leaving engine oil in your vehicle too long can damage your engine or create expensive repairs down the road. When oil is left inside an engine for extended period of time and starts to breakdown, you can start developing sludge which can severely impact the performance of your engine and eventually lead to engine failure. The same is true for other maintenance items throughout your vehicle. Although some vehicles include a smart computer system reminding you when service is due, some of these systems placed in the newer vehicles are set for too long of intervals. You should protect your investment and service the car now to avoid headaches later. We have included some good service practices below that you can compare to your vehicle manufacturer recommendations and make a better decision on the long-term care of your vehicle. Also remember that your dealership cannot void the warranty on your new or used car just because you take that car to an independent for service. We offer up to a 4 year/50,000 mile warranty on all service and repairs. This also includes parts and labor.

Bosch Nationwide warranties may vary. Can I purchase my parts online at a discount and have your shop install it? We strongly suggest having our shop or the shop you take your vehicle to supply the parts. Usually, the shop you take your car to knows what brand works best and you will receive a warranty for the repairs. When you order parts online you are only saving in the short run. More than likely you will end up with the incorrect parts and/or the brand you were sent is not what you ordered. Returns and exchanges can get expensive and paying to replace the part again is even more of an expense. Most shops today are very competitively priced but keep in mind that the price you are quoted is backed by a 24 month/24k mile parts and labor warranty at our shop and only OEM parts are used to complete the repairs. To make a very long story short – We don’t recommend bringing your own parts. Let us fix it for you and do it right the first time.

We are equipped with the latest diagnostic equipment and technical information to diagnose and repair your vehicle as quickly and efficiently as possible. Diagnosing your check engine light with a generic scan tool does not cut it these days. Remember, when you see a Service Engine Soon Light, this means the same thing as your Check Engine Light. It does not mean that your vehicle is just due for service, it means there is a malfunction in the vechicle’s engine management system. Not only can we use these tools to diagnose a problem, we can also change vehicle settings for you. For example: If you you want to turn off a factory setting on your BMW or change it, let us know. You may want your interior temperature for the climate control to be saved in your key so when you enter the vehicle again it stays. You can also do this with seat settings, mirror settings, and more. Most vehicles have this option. You just need the appropriate tools and knowledge to make it work.

Can I effectively diagnose my Check Engine or Service Engine light by taking my vehicle to the local parts store or using a store-purchased universal OBD II scanner? Sometimes. I know everyone wants to save money when it comes to repairing your vehicle and that is fine. You must also understand that there is a reason these local parts stores can do this service for FREE. They use a very generic OBD II standard piece of equipment that merely pulls the Government regulated emissions code from you on board computer for engine management. Sometime you can get lucky and fix your car by replacing the part that OBD II states is defective. The problem is you may be replacing unnecessary parts. For example: You may retrieve a fault code for Oxygen Sensor malfunction or fuel trim malfunction and the local parts store associate or your online-purchased hand held car doctor may try to sell you oxygen sensors. You replace the sensors, clear the codes, and next week the light returns. Now you take it to the shop to find you had a broken vacuum line that cost very little to replace. Save yourself the trouble and take your vehicle to a professional service shop the first time. Ask yourself this question. Do you give yourself your own EKG? Or if you do, would you trust yourself reading the results? Trust your automotive diagnostics to the people who do this for a living. You will save yourself time, money, and aggravation.

When should I change my oil? The latest news from the car manufacturers is that it is ok to change your oil at very long intervals. The reason they are recommending this is that the manufacturer probably offers free scheduled maintenance during the warranty or lease period. That is great for them and for you short-term but not good for your car or your wallet long-term. Leaving oil in an engine longer than 7500 miles can cause severe damage to engine parts in today’s advanced engines. Depending on your model, we recommend changing your oil with synthetic oil every 6,000 miles or conventional oil every 3,000 miles.

How often do I need a tune up? The car manufacturers today make it very confusing to the consumer on when to service their vehicle. Here is a great and safe way to service your vehicle. Change your engine oil with synthetic oil every 6,000 miles, Perform a minor service (tune-up) every 15,000 miles and Perform a major service (tune-up) every 30,000 miles. This will keep your car in good running order. In between these services, Carmine’s Import Service will recommend any other items needed or that will be needed in the future to prepare you for the service or repair. It is very important to make sure that all filters, including air, cabin, fuel, oil, etc are replaced within the scope of these services. And last but not least, make sure that only Original Equipment Quality parts are being used in your vehicle that meet or exceed the manufacturer specifications.
