The town of Kernersville, North Carolina, is located at the center of the Piedmont Triad metropolitan area. This puts it between Greensboro to the east, High Point to the south, and Winston-Salem to the west. Kernersville covers more than 17 square miles of land, home to an estimated population of just over 24,000 people.
The area was first settled in 1756, then sold to a new owner who called the community “Dobson’s Crossroads”. History has it George Washington was served breakfast at Dobson’s tavern on June 2, 1791. The land was sold again in 1817 to Joseph Kerner, ushering in the name “Kerners Crossroads.” With the railroad arriving decades later, the town was finally incorporated as Kernersville in 1873. Today, Korner’s Folly is a historic home that still stands. It was built around 1879 and now functions as a tourist attraction for its unusual design and architecture.
